Why do GPs sometimes charge fees?

Non-urgent advice:

GPs are not employed by the NHS, they are self-employed. Sometimes a charge for the work that is carried out on behalf of a patient is done because the service being requested is not covered by the NHS, for example completing certain certificates or producing reports. The NHS contract with GPs covers primary medical services to NHS patients which includes completion of a small number of certificates including Fit Notes and exemption from Jury Duty letters if deemed to be required.

At Bourtreehill Medical Practice, we believe in ensuring that we provide the best service possible for patients under the NHS contract, however, the following is a list of requests that we are frequently asked for and the associated fee to accompany this. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
